Who do you trust these days!

Here is a question! as a freelancer what do you do if you have been commissioned to work on a project. Had meetings and agreed things are going well and a price, worked up designs and artwork for the approved bits etc , then one day the client calls and tells you to hold off doing any more on the job till you hear from them again....and 3 months pass and nothing!.......they ignore your calls....e-mails etc....so what next? small claims court?
